Band ini dimulai oleh anak teman Ronnie Winter, Thomas Amason, dan Duke Kitchens dalam kelas teori musik yang mereka bersama AP pada 2003. After members from Thomas, Duke and Ronnie's other bands joined them, the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus was officially formed in 2003. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus released an untitled demo with three songs in mid-2004. Aparatur Jumpsuit Merah merilis demo berjudul dengan tiga lagu pada pertengahan-2004. After adding nine more songs a few months later, the band released their self-titled 12-song LP that same year.
